Bunche Speaks From March Podium
At the end of the Selma to Montgomery March, Civil Rights leader Ralph Bunche (1903 - 1971) speaks to the assembled marchers and spectators in front of the Alabama State Capitol, Montgomery, Alabama, March 25, 1965. At left is Bernard Lee (1935 - 1991) (in v-neck sweater) of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, and behind him are Civil Rights leaders John Lewis (extreme left, partially cropped), Martin Luther King Jr (1929 - 1968), and Ralph Abernathy (1926 - 1990) (with one of his sons). The pulpit is from the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, and it is the one from which Martin Luther King Jr (1929 - 1968) preached his sermons when he was pastor there between 1954 to 1960.
