AfD Co-Head Dismisses Assistant Roland Hartwig Following Meeting With Neo-Nazis
BERLIN, GERMANY - OCTOBER 09: Alice Weidel (L), co-head of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party, and her advisor Roland Hartwig attend a press conference the day after state elections in Hesse and Bavaria on October 9, 2023 in Berlin, Germany. On January 15, 2024 Weidel announced that she had dismissed Hartwig following revelations that he had taken part in a meeting last year with neo-Nazis, including Austrian far-right extremist Martin Sellner, at a villa near Potsdam. According to the investigative group Correctiv, participants at the meeting discussed how to possibly introduce legislative measures to enable the mass expulsion of immigrants from Germany, as well as German citizens with immigrant roots and German citizens who have helped refugees. News of the meeting has prompted renewed calls for banning the AfD. (Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)
