HMS Penelope
The Royal Navy light cruiser HMS Penelope after it was bombed while being repaired in Malta, 1942. The attack left the ship so badly damaged that it was nicknamed 'Pepperpot'. The ship was later torpedoed by the German submarine U410 on the 18th February 1944 and sank off Anzio with the loss of 417 crewmembers. (Photo by Central Press/Getty Images)
